چکیده

A retrospective, single-center review was performed from January 2013 to June 2018. Sixty-one patients (23 children and 38 adults; aged 3-30 years) with renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) had undergone balloon angioplasty for severe hypertension, 2 requiring bail-out stenting. Blood pressure improved in 19 (8 normalized, 11 decreased) of 21 branch FMD during follow-up. The incidence significantly greater the (13 23; 57%) than adults 40; 20%). 4-year freedom reintervention lower that main (68% vs 81%). observed adults. Endovascular treatment can be used treat FMD.

Treatment of renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia.

Fibromuscular dysplasia is a nonatherosclerotic and noninflammatory disease that can result in stenoses of the renal arteries and hypertension, most commonly affecting middle-aged women. Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty has long been considered the mainstay of therapy and offers high rates of improved or cured hypertension. The disease involves the mid and distal renal arteries and branchp...

Vascular Medicine Association Between 2 Angiographic Subtypes of Renal Artery Fibromuscular Dysplasia and Clinical Characteristics

Background—Initially based on histology, the diagnosis of renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is now based mostly on angiographic appearance because arterial tissue samples are rarely available. This retrospective crosssectional study aimed to assess the clinical relevance of a binary angiographic classification of FMD lesions (unifocal or multifocal) based on computed tomographic or mag...

Optimal management of renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia

Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is a nonatherosclerotic, noninflammatory angiopathy of unknown cause affecting medium-sized (most commonly renal) arteries and causing renovascular hypertension. The most common medial multifocal type of FMD (with the "string of beads" appearance) is more than four times more prevalent in females than in males. FMD accounts for up to 10% of cases of renovascular hy...
